Our Framework
Inspired by Christ
Among many things, Jesus taught us to use our talents wisely, maximizing the good we can do (Matt 25:14-30). He taught us to count the cost (Luke 14:28), and to be wise as serpents yet innocent as doves (Matt 10:16).
As CS Lewis put it, “He wants a child's heart, but a grown-up's head. He wants us to be simple, single-minded, affectionate, and teachable, as good children are; but He also wants every bit of intelligence we have to be alert at its job, and in first-class fighting trim.”
Impact Focused
Our framework for identifying promising careers starts by looking at key global problems where additional resources - such as your talents - can make a major impact.
The ITN Framework (Importance, Tractability, Neglectedness) in particular had a significant influence on our thinking. About Jesus’s own ministry, He once remarked “the harvest is plentiful but the laborers are few” (Matt 9:37). Of all the contemporary opportunities to love our neighbor, where is additional labor likely to do the most good? For each of the most promising areas, we provide detailed problem profiles.
Customized by You
Why do we profile so many different problem areas in our problem profiles? Which one calls on your talents, and in what role can you have the biggest impact?
That depends on you. As Paul wrote (1 Cor 12:4-5), “there are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord.” Good decisions involve considering where you are in your career thus far, your skills, your immediate opportunity set, what would be a good personal fit, and other considerations.
